Use Simple Speed Time & Distance Formulas
P is 260 mtrs ahead of q at the time of starting the race. So P have to cover only 640 mtrs to win the Race. Speed of P is 8x. Use the formula of Time = Distance/Speed
640/8x
Speed of Q is 9x and he run for same time as P. Now we need distance covered by Q
Distance = Speed x Time
=9x X 640/8x = 720 mtrs
So at the end of Race P is on 900 mtrs mark and q is 720 mtrs mark. So Q is short by 180 mtrs
