Question of the Day No. 31


If 4 men or 6 women can do a piece of work in 12 days working 7 hours a day, How many days will it take to complete a work twice as large with 10 men and 3 women working together 8 hours a days?

a) 5     b) 6    c) 10    d) 7    e) None of these

    1. Correct Answer is 7
      Explanation : 4 men or 6 women are doing work in 12 Days working 7 hours a day.
      This means working efficiency of 4 men and 6 women is equal
      4 men = 6 women
      1 man = 6/4 women (3/2 women)

      Now we have to calculate the work done by 10 men and 3 women. Now we can change 10 men to women.
      If 1 man = 3/2 women then 10 men = 15 women
      So we have to calculate in how many days 18 women(15+3) can do the double work

      Do the simple formula
      (m1xd1xh1)/w1 = (m2xd2xh2)/w2
      (6*12*7)/1 = (18*x*8)/2

      Just Calculate this and you will find the value of x = 7
